Ever wondered how matcha is turned into that fine green powder used in your matcha food and drinks? Matcha Tomo is proud to present Perth’s first stone milling experience, where you can grind fresh matcha by hand using a traditional stone mill, either on your own or shared with a companion.

Intentionally kept small and intimate for a max of 2 pax per session, this is a rare opportunity to experience matcha in a more traditional and tactile way, beginning not with a pre-prepared bowl, but with the leaf itself. Using tencha from the Okumidori cultivar, you will slowly mill your own matcha fresh, seeing for yourself how slowly matcha is milled, and coming away with a greater appreciation for the time, care, and craftsmanship behind it.

Once milled, your matcha will be prepared for you to enjoy as an usucha or as a latte, allowing you to experience the difference that freshness can make in aroma, texture, and flavour.

What to expect

  • Learn about the stone mill's anatomy

  • Learn the difference between commercial stone mills vs personal stone mills
  • The chance to grind your own fresh matcha by hand

We may be able to make small adjustments in some cases, however this is not always possible due to the shared nature of our workshops. If you have specific dietary requirements, please email us before booking so we can discuss available options and advise whether the workshop will be suitable.

We will always do our best to support you where we can, while keeping everyone’s safety in mind.
